UWP Calls Out ‘Church Invader’ Joachim Henry After He Condemns Vieux Fort Church Attack

Saint Lucia’s opposition United Workers Party (UWP) has criticised Minister responsible for Ecclesiastical Affairs, Joachim Henry, over his condemnation of Sunday’s Molotov Cocktail attack on the Our Lady of the Assumption church in Vieux Fort.

No one was injured in the attack when a man, whom police later arrested, entered the church and exploded two incendiary devices.

Describing Joachim Henry as Saint Lucia’s ‘ most conspicuous ‘church invader’, the UWP declared that the Minister does not have the moral authority to speak against church invasions.

And the opposition party, in a release headlined ‘Double Standards & Hypocrites’, called on Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre to do this country justice and demand Henry’s immediate resignation or dismiss him from the Cabinet.

“In the interest of equal rights, fairness and justice for all and; what little is left of the good reputation of the Government of Saint Lucia, he should be made to face the same process that the latest church invader will have to face,” the UWP release asserted.

On April 24, 2021, Joachim Henry, the then opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) candidate for the Castries South East seat, entered the Forestiere Seventh Day Adventist church and confronted the incumbent MP Guy Joseph, disrupting a service that was in progress.

Henry, who was mourning the death of his son, accused Joseph of seeking to make political mileage from the tragedy.

He subsequently unseated Joseph after the July 26, 2021, general elections, which the SLP won by a landslide.

  1. The Adventist Minister invaded the Forestere Seven Days Adventist Church Last Year Before Elections Why Comment on What Transpired at the Catholic Church in Vieux.Fort .I am Slp from 1979 to 2022 .The Minister should have leave this Issue to the District Rep

  2. This was a no win situation for Joachim. If he says nothing, he gets called out because he is the minister for ecclesiastic affairs (whatever that means). If he comments he gets roasted (rightfully so), so he clearly can’t win. I guess the real question is, why was he given this ministry (ecclesiastic affairs) considering his history? That was a poor decision. What the heck does this department/ministry do anyway? UWP should tread carefully if they decide to go down this path as their members are not blameless. They also run the risk of turning people off.

  3. A nation of hypocrites where wrongdoing can both be wrong and right depending on who is committing it. Some of you people need to look at yourselves in the mirror. Too many of you have access to social media to talk garbage. Like Bolo Byron. Who is more corrupt than those who were involved in the NCA scandal, the Minister’s account, the Juffali affair, the Grynberg matter and many more? Yet you have the nerve to talk

  4. I need to get away from this shithole with rats governing .No one takes us serious on the world stage .Look what my beautiful country have come to . If you speak out about injustice and wrongs you are told to shut the fxxk up and go eat more green figs … SMFH

  5. These slps are sickening why you all not condem what Joachim did he wrong what excuses looking for the lawless minister..awa lucians we are going to embarrass our country shame on us endulging the wrong..we finished

  6. Exactly why the Politicians and their frenz getting richer and all u remain poorer. Double standards that we accept. Why wasn’t Joachim arrested too.

  7. I don’t see the need for any comment from uwp except a condemnation of the arson attack. Politics should not be part of this attack. Uwps should be ashamed of themselves for this comparison.

  8. The most corrupt Party in the Caribbean, both for teefing and telling lies is UWP of St Lucia.

  9. SLP is a party of hypocrites without vision. The members only wanted power nothing more. The same things they accused UWP of they are doing the very same things. They keep blaming Chastanet, Covid and now the war for not delivering what they promised to the people. Bunch of bad individuals as leaders in this party.

  10. This has nothing to do with politics, its the bad behavior of anyone, most especially the ones who wishes to represent this ROCK, and hypocritically says and appears sanctimonious but in fact as deplorable and guilty as the sinner he/she is. Such a person should do the Lord a favour; drop the title Minister of Ecclesiastical Affaires – I can suggest something else, but forget it for now.

  11. The only similarity with My Henry’s incident and the vfort incident is that they both happened in a church. If people want to say both incidences are the same then so be it but an arson attack and a verbal altercation between two people in a church are vastly different. I don’t condone what Mr Henry did but the two incidences are as different as apples and oranges.

  12. Every issue in our country is smeared and daubed with politics! And politics is a very dirty game. That’s why every issue in the land has dirt and mud all over it!

  13. Uwp, will grab at any straw to stay afloat. Shame on you all, resign for what. He wasn’t in office when the incident occured,he wasn’t prosecuted, why now call for his prosecution. Some of us should really think before we write our bunch of garbage and stop being too political.
