Saint Lucia police have identified the victims of Monday night’s fatal shooting at Corinth, Gros Islet, as Shem Augustine of Agard and Darian Degazon.

Residents of the community where the double homicide occurred have expressed shock over the incident.

According to law enforcement authorities, the two deceased were part of a trio of males  sitting on the balcony of a house.

It was reported that two masked men walked up to them and opened fire.

One of the three men who were on the balcony escaped while the two others were hit and succumbed.

The shooting, which police say was reported to them about 10.30 pm, has left residents of the community where it occurred in shock.

“It is rather unfortunate that this incident happened. This place has been a very quiet place over the years and of late it appears that because of migration of other individuals who seem to have occupied houses at the back, we have seen an upsurge in criminal activity,” a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity told St Lucia Times.

He  declared that Monday night’s incident was an unpleasant surprise to everyone.

Another resident who wanted to be identified only as John, declared that the violent crime was totally unexpected.

He recalled hearing screams.

“When we came out they told us ‘Look two fellas on the ground’,” he stated.

John said the victims had only recently started living in the area.

“The fellas have no problem – football the fellas playing when I pass every day and to hear that last night in the community, that’s shocking,” he told St Lucia Times.

Saint Lucia has so far recorded 46 homicides for the year.
