A police officer drew his firearm Monday afternoon in Castries in a video that has gone viral.
The incident occurred during a police operation that attracted a vocal crowd.
The video on social media records the officers confronted by irate citizens.
At one point in the video one of the officers draws his weapon as a male grabs the cop’s shirt.
According to an eyewitness, the drama unfolded outside the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
The eyewitness said police were checking people who were attending a funeral.
Monday’s incident is the latest in which vocal bystanders have intervened as police conducted their duties.
Just last week pandemonium broke out in Castries as police officers arrested a male individual.
One man in a crowd that had gathered urged the man to defend himself and fight back.
Police have since cautioned members of the public to allow them to do their lawful duties without interference.
Law enforcement officials explained that there’s an avenue for people who are aggrieved to file a complaint if they believe that police have used excessive force.
Prior to Monday afternoon’s incident outside the Catholic church, Police Commissioner, Milton Desir, had invited members of the media to a press briefing to address, among other things, recent viral videos depicting physical altercations between officers and civilians.
The press briefing will take place on Tuesday at Police Headquarters.
