The judiciary will now have the legal authority to impose longer prison sentences and steeper fines on people convicted for illegal firearm and ammunition offences.

On July 26, 2022 the Lower House debated and passed the Firearms [Amendment] Act.

The decision to strengthen the Bill is a direct and targeted response to an uptick in violent gun crime.

  1. This was a long time coming…at least twelve years late. I am still confounded by the fine because it offers hope for people found with illegal weapons. Furthermore, people with money like drug dealers can pay up and get out. The rich can also get out. There should have been a zero tolerance.
    Thanks, Pierre.

  2. Don’t forget when you are stopped by the police you stop immediately and place both hands on the steering wheel.
Sir can I get your license please.
Don’t move your hands from that steering wheel.

  3. Not only both ‘Parties’ but the whole region are kidding themselves in believing Jail alone will solve the killing spree. I don’t know about the other small Islands, but for St. Lucia alone that’s too damn much. The missing young men in St. Lucia are either locked up in prison or are buried at some cemetery. For a long time I’ve said ‘You kill – You Hang’ short of that, you’re wasting your time. How many hundreds do we have to feed, pay to keep them safe, medicated, laundered and clothed on Tax payers account? we aught to whip some asses too, mainly on leaving just as a reminder; I pray that the eyes of the Spiritually blind, be opened.

    • Man you are still quite dumb “he who is without sin cast the first stone” why don’t you find the killers and hang them if your hands are clean.
