A sod-turning ceremony took place Monday for a new building complex in connection with a project to upgrade vocational training for marginalised youth in Saint Lucia.

It’s a building for the catering and hospitality section of the Centre for Adolescent Renewal and Education (C.A.R.E).

An India-UNDP partnership is funding the project.

  1. Boy oh boy! Something is wrong with this country. Successive governments of this country love a freeness. We accept any and everything given to us as long as it is free of charge. And, we accept those gifts even when we are fully aware of our inability to maintain them. Now we are constructing a building complex to upgrade vocational training for marginalised youth. Now, do tell. How will the government identify those blessed souls whose vocational training need to be upgraded? We recently shut the doors of the Technical & Vocational Secondary school in Vieux Fort.
We also have numerous empty factory shells which can be equipped and used to train our youth. NSDC is still functioning; so why do we need a new facility. We have had numerous other projects which have consumed millions of dollars and collapsed immediately after the overseas/foreign funding came to a halt. Why do we continue to abuse ourselves in that manner? Sometimes I wonder.
