On Saturday, February 11, 2023, about 1:00 a.m., a joint team of Officers attached to the Laborie Police Station, Special Services Unit and Scenes of Crime Office were dispatched to the Laborie Highway, to respond to a report of a shooting.
Off-duty officers acting on information received regarding a male unlawfully in possession of a firearm within an establishment approached the accused, who proceeded to assault an officer with the firearm, causing injury to his head. Other officers present intervened, attempting to disarm him. He was pursued outside the establishment where he discharged rounds of ammunition in the direction of officers.
During the incident, the male sustained fatal injuries; he has now been formally identified as Erick Thomas, a twenty-two (22) year-old resident of Eucalyptus Avenue, Laborie. Three (3) other males were also injured during the shooting.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force condemns any action which threatens the life of any Police Officer and or members of the public. All interventions necessary to preserve life and property, within the ambit of the law, will be supported. Psychological support and other required aid are being offered at this time to involved officers.

Officers of the RSLPF, we stand with you in your persuit of discharging your duty as it relates to peace and safety of citizens (and of course yourselves). And that is as you act within the boundaries of the law. In this particular case, the majority believe you acted within the law notwithstanding the pronouncement of the deceased’s father.
Mary, you lost…again! Your prospective client took it in the pants. There will be no taxpayers (m)honey for you. I am happy no one in the crowd was denied their right to life by your worthless prospect.
Some of you Lucians are seriously in need of basic respect-why?? because you all have none-absolutely none. You all need to remain in St. Lucia because you all would not be able to live in any other part of the world which is governed by rules for 5 minutes. You are an extremely disrespectful lawless society in serious need of help.
RSLPF stand yoir GROUND…. Live like a badman die like one…. Saint lucia stands with the police period no matter how daddy and brother try cover up… And the other assailants should be arrested. Hope he had his funeral plan prepared daddy cause he was a wannabe badman… Live by the gun die by one.
Good riddance to this low life…at 22 when you should be contributing meaningfully to society, instead you toting guns…well you got your just deserve. The majority of Saint Lucians won’t be mourning your loss although I do have some empathy for the family….yet it is their failure that produced such a son …and with a pandemic of bad parenting in Saint Lucia, you can see why crime is on the increase… parents are ill equipped to raise decent citizens…
I do not always support police shooting especially when they try to cover up for each other. However, in this particular case, I support the action of the police 100%. There is no other action I could have suggested in the absence of killing the idiot – job well done officer. Get ready for the next bad guy – one at a time
Re Article, Excellent job well done by the Intelligence squared.. let’s keep St Lucia clean ALWAYS…I endorse my thoughts…
