Saint Lucia will be hosting the 2024 Windward Islands Cricket Board Senior Men 50-over Cricket Tournament from August 4-11, 2024, with matches to be played at two venues.
Matches will commence at 9:30 a.m., and will be played at the Mindoo Philip Park in Castries, and the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet. All four territories in the Windward Islands grouping have been having trial matches in preparation of this year’s tournament, and president of the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) says that he is “excited” about the young talent coming through.
According to SLNCA president Wayne Auguste, “There is a need for young talents to put their hands up with consistent performances with bat and ball, if the Windward Islands is to become a better all-round unit.”
Auguste pointed out that there are a number of young talented players from each of the four islands and “if they put their heads down and perform, then bowlers will be under pressure and these matches will make watching very attractive.”
It is expected that international players such as Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge from the Commonwealth of Dominica, Teddy Bishop from Grenada; 2023 Tournament MVP Shadrack Descarte, former West Indies U19 captains Kimani Melius and Ackeem Auguste from Saint Lucia, are all expected to continue their dominance with the bat.
Additionally, a host of fast bowling talent is expected to emerge, further enhancing the quality of the tournament.
