Antonius Tixcy and his son Melchizedek had big plans for Friday when the boy turned fourteen.
But the planned celebration turned into mourning when the teenager sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head on Wednesday night.
According to reports confirmed by family members, Melchizedek Tixcy was at his home in Blanchard, Desruisseaux, when some individuals came looking for an older sibling in his twenties who was no longer living there.
Shots were fired at the home, and the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary student sustained the fatal injury.
The boy’s father told St. Lucia Times the family was struggling to cope with the tragedy.
The father lost his sight eighteen years ago due to optic nerve inflammation and explained that ‘Mello’, as they affectionately called the youngster, was a great help.
“He was my eyes,” Antonius Tixcy said of the deceased teenager.
“He was everything. He was the one who used to walk me around, bring me into town, and bring me to Vieux Fort. As long as I called on him, he was always humble,” the father told St. Lucia Times.
“I will surely miss him,” he said.
Antonius, president of the Desruisseax Council for Persons with Disabilities, revealed plans for a vigil in Desruisseaux on Friday evening.
The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), of which he is a board member, said it was ‘heartbroken’ by Melchizedek’s senseless shooting and death and sympathized with the teenager’s family and friends.
“The NCPD supports heightened calls for greater actions in our society to reduce crime and violence as we are all affected by these plaguing issues,” the organisation said in a Facebook statement.
Father, I can only try to imagine the pain and emptiness you feel right now and no amount of condolences can soothe your pain. It’s not right nor acceptable for innocence to be taken in such a cruel way. I do trust you will find resolve and closure with time. Truly sorry for your loss.
Sir I am so sorry for your loss. I am a St lucian living abroad and it broke my heart to hear of your son’s demise in such a tragic way. I was hoping it was fake news. I pray that God strengthens you and your family at this difficult time. I am sure your son will forever be in your heart. May he rest peacefully and may those who caused his death be swiftly brought to justice.
I pray that the murderers suffer the same and more in coming days. May they find no peace at all as they seek to navigate the days and weeks ahead. My hope is that they don’t have all of this time left to live. You have left a huge void in the lives of this family and for this you must pay dearly. Note, you will be cut off sooner than you know it and be made to ponder your act until your eventual demise. No amount of counsel shall make you clean. May the powers that see everything judge you at this very moment. You and everyone involved. You will find no rest and will see him every second of the night till your own eyes are forever shut.
This makes my blood boil. I am angry the way kid went out. The people making excuses for the terror are quiet. They can’t reconcile their agenda with its results. As usual, they have slinked into their dirty, little holes. Then, there is a manager who presides over security, who doesn’t know what he is doing. Totally inept. He had 3 years at it, and can’t seem to turn the corner. Where is he tonight? Maybe at another regional security meeting. Those P*S hardly show up to acknowledge their handiwork. If they do, it’s always with platitudes.
My deepest sympathy to the kid’s dad and family. This is heartbreaking. Another milestone on the road to Haiti.
NO AMOUNT OF JUSTICE Can never take away this family’s pain especially the father may he finds solicit in God’s arms what a heart break.god will guide you father stay strong
