Innocent Edwin, a visually impaired man known to many in Castries, is making a heartfelt plea to the public for assistance as he battles late-stage cancer.
Edwin is a familiar figure outside Johnson’s Hardware Store on Micoud Street, often seen panhandling.
He told St. Lucia Times about the distressing news concerning his health.
“It’s a long time I feel my chest paining me, so I used to rub it each time I feel it,” he recounted.
Edwin disclosed that last month, the pain became unbearable, prompting him to seek medical attention.
“So one day I decide to go to doctor, so when the doctor see me, they say I have cancer,” he recalled.
Despite his diagnosis, Edwin said he remains in the dark about the specific type of cancer he has.
However, he revealed that his doctors have informed him that the disease has already progressed to its late stage.
Edwin told St. Lucia Times that his main symptom remains the severe chest pain.
There is also a visible growth emerging from his right breast —a stark indication of the seriousness of his condition.
He revealed that he went to the Ministry of Equity for help, but the Minister wasn’t present.
As a result, Innocent decided that he would go back later.
Contacted by St. Lucia Times, the Ministry indicated it would do its best to assist individuals in such dire situations.
With mounting medical expenses, medication, and the urgent need for surgery, Edwin is now turning to the public for help.
He needs between $3,000 and $10,000 for his first medical procedure, a sum that is far beyond his means.
He said any assistance in his fight to stay alive would be greatly appreciated.
This is really viable candidate for a go fund me page…..do the right thing ppl.
For what, my boss should not give you any handouts.
“Edwin said he remains in the dark about the specific type of cancer he has.” Why wasn’t he informed about the type of cancer is has?
For many months I have seen this human being and a member of his family sitting, begging on Micoud Street. I give what I can as I am unemployed. This man, an elderly citizen is not only experiencing excruciating physical agony but the pain of exclusion in a society “blind” to his obvious absence of sight from birth I believe. What now that his plight is finally broadcast in the local news ??? will “Vibes” from passing pedestrians be merciful in demanding assistance be forth coming or will He be sadly ignored and discarded. All who have eyes to see please take a walk to Johnsons Hardware on Micoud Street and demand help for Innocent Edwin….PLEASE!!!
May the love of God unhardened our hearts to give freely, thank you for your concernant🙏
While God is still the best doctor and prayer is still the best medine ❗
