Police Probe Fatal Crash At Desruisseaux

Police have confirmed that they are investigating a vehicle crash near the Desruisseaux playing field, resulting in the death of one male occupant.

Two others on board the Mitsubishi L200 that ran off the road and collided with a tree sustained severe injuries.

The Micoud Fire Station responded after learning of the crash at about 3:28 pm.

Friday’s incident was the latest in a surge of road collisions that have so far resulted in eighteen deaths in 2024.

Despite official road safety appeals, road accidents accounted for most of Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) trauma responses in 2024.

According to SLFS data, as of August 28, there were 577 trauma responses to incidents involving vehicles and motorcycles.

The second most prominent trauma response category was physical assaults – 141, followed by 42 shootings, 40 stabbings, and 26 choppings.

Very worrying figures for a small island. Small island people always fot into the top rated situations be mindful because your identity is a country. When it go good one way it can go horribly wrong the other way. One person won gold for us all but we behave it is just another day goes by. We need to put things in place and hold those people responsible. It’s time we don’t take 2 dollars for a paycheck and accept flimsy excuses from those leaders who is abusing our votes daily for their own gain.

  2. Lucians ….WATCH YOUR BREAD !!! St.Lucia has been infested with a plague a plaque of evil and majority of St.Lucians are blinded by this evil . Give the one and only true God your lives turn from your ways of iniquity , repent and on the day of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ you shall be saved . It is the ONLY way . Satan knows his time his reign is coming to an end . Put on the whole Armour of God . There is power in the name of Jesus we must only trust and obey God.

  3. A current two year old will die of old age waiting on the Ministry of Transport to react to the obvious upward trend in motor vehicle collisions….no safety campaign….no concern..no outreach…no investigations into the reasons….no nothing. MOST WORTHLESS MINISTRY IS INFRASTRUCTURE TRANPSORT PORTS .

  4. Vehicle ‘safety’ inspections are a joke, driving skills are abominable, I suspect there are many drivers who do not have licences or insurance. But who cares? Its more important to lock someone up because they own a crystal ball and wiccan bible!!! This island is sooooo backward….

  5. For the government of St Lucia too many people on the road driving, that don’t know the law …. Fist of all driving instructors it’s a way to rip people off … the system should be changed instead of one going and do a physical , and then given a permit to drive is so wrong .
It should be doing and passing your theory first, an then the permit should be given after the theory is passed , they can then go on the road with a mature driver who have a license for more than 5 years !
Driving schools just eats your money and nothing about safety is really taught.

  6. Generally speaking….

We have not upgraded our road networks to deal with the increase in vehicles. Every month we have more vehicles coming in. At some point … The road network needs to be modified to allow for the increase in population and increase in vehicles.

With regards to the reckless driving
The country should introduce points on license.

    Active highway patrols

    Functioning cameras along major roads

Tickets by mail or email or even text messages.

Something should be done sooner than later

  7. A driver just told me on Friday that there are persons giving drivers’ licenses under de counter at Ministry of Communications/ Infrastructure. So basically if you have enough money, you can buy a license. If anyone is serious about these road accidents then that’s a starting point for investigation. Also other insurances should do like GTM and penalize those reckless drivers. Smh
