Marchand To Benefit From New Free Wi-Fi Project

The Marchand community is set to enter a new era of digital accessibility with the launch of the Universal Service Fund’s (USF) Community Wi-Fi Project dubbed “The Marchand Playing Fields Project, (Mindoo Phillip Park and Marchand Grounds)”.

An official launch ceremony will take place on Friday at the Mindoo Phillip Park facility in Castries at 2:30 PM.

This initiative will provide free, high-speed internet access to key sporting facilities, including the Community Centre and surrounding areas.

Funded by the USF, the project aims to enhance connectivity for both athletes and local residents.

With internet access now available at these facilities, young athletes and community members will have improved access to online educational resources, e-sports, and real-time coaching tools.

This initiative not only enhances the sporting experience but also ensures that players and spectators remain digitally connected.

The project’s reach extends beyond the playing fields, delivering consistent, high-quality connectivity to households and communities in the vicinity.

Stakeholders include Sports St. Lucia Inc. will manage the sports facilities, and Cable and Wireless St. Lucia (FLOW), the contracted service provider.

The contract was signed on March 22, 2024 and is  valued at about EC$170,000, aiming for implementation ahead of the June 2024 World Cup T20 cricket matches hosted in Saint Lucia. The USF will subsidize the project for five years, concluding in 2029.
