Fedee Promises “Tax Break” If UWP Reelected

The opposition United Workers Party (UWP) is continuing its criticisms of the present administration’s management of the economy, arguing that inflation levels can be better controlled. The UWP has promised that if reelected into office, its economic strategies will benefit the people of Saint Lucia.

At a press conference last week convened by executive members, the issue was discussed once more.

2nd Deputy Leader of the Party, Dominic Fedee reiterated a prior UWP manifesto promise of reducing the rate of taxation. During their 2016 campaign, the party had promised to remove the Value Added Tax completely, which at the time, was at a rate of 15%.

Upon entering office, the VAT was reduced to 12.5%. This time, without disclosing the rate at which taxes would be reduced, Fedee promised a tax break for Saint Lucians.

“The United Workers’ Party will make sure that the same rate of tax will be paid by consumers, that is paid by large hotel developers and developers or large investors. We will make sure that you, the people of St. Lucia, get the tax break and the help that you need. That is a big thing,” he said.

Fedee says a new UWP administration will focus on economic development and job creation, noting that being employed during this critical economic time is a bonus.

“We will build a dynamic economy. We will focus on economic growth and job creation. It’s important. Once you’ve got a job, you stand a better chance of affording the cost of living situation. We will increase the transportation subsidy to make sure that your school children can go to school for free,” he promised.

  1. These continuous failed promises can’t fool us anymore. Inflation the world over, how can you reduce ours? Pure, BS, in the name of politics and seeking reelection.

  2. And what’s your plan for the roads? I have to replace the suspension components on my car every year. Components that usually last for at least 5 years.

  3. I notice he seems to be watching kamala harris. Our treasury is always empty, the government never have finance to do what is important for the economy and now you bringing in bull**** to people head.

  4. @senior I will agree with you about world inflation which we have no control over but this government has compounded it by putting a 2.5% levy on our backs which makes it worst.

  5. Bla bla bla. Change your opposition leader and UWP will win an election. We don’t want chastanet to lead our country again.

  6. Those “tax breaks” are generally offerings of crumbs and are ploys to get votes. The real significant tax breaks will come with reduction in import duties and the like. Both heads of the political parties are trained money professionals. They are both hooked on the high amounts of Customs revenue. It’s an addictive drug.

The effects of Customs ripples through the economy at every turn. It stifles local investments because of the prohibitive costs of doing business. That in turn affects prospective employment. I don’t think for one minute that they have entertained lowering duties in order to make the island a shopping hub for the nearby islands. This is nothing new. The economic effects would be far greater than the present model. Unfortunately, both leaders are as imaginative as fireflies.

  7. Cocolowrum you all will also increase the minimum wage by 12 dollars an hour man you all rejected politicians should go and plant potatoes in Bouton . As you and Tropical Trump are just desperate for power to milk the treasury and give our land and money to foreigners , friend and families go away .. Foolish cocolowrum…

  8. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣….be more imaginative than this Fedee…it really sounds like you are begging for re- election….🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  9. Keep on making promises. Next will be a $1,500 cheque to every working adult. This blaming game will not get UWP elected. There is no Donald Trump in St.Lucia. We need to produce more to combat inflation.

  10. Ego, ego, ego – some of you (politicians) think too highly of yourselves and no one is impressed with you — BUT YOU. You want to be held on a pedestal – spare me!!!

  11. Fedee, I am one who want to support the UWP, but to me, there are too many rejects. Guy , Fedee, Herod are all rejects. What new ideas will all you bring? Don’t tell us you will reduce tax, tell us by what percentage. What are the policies will all you introduce? Common Fedee say something with sense.

  12. I would like to rely on GOD’S promises which God is not a man to lie,his word is pure and true, what he bless no man can curse !!!!!!
