‘Totally Unacceptable’ – Hilaire Speaks On Fatal Shooting

Saint Lucia’s acting Prime Minister, Dr. Ernest Hilaire, has issued a statement following Monday’s brazen daylight shooting near Derek Walcott Square in Castries expressing regret over the incident.

Hilaire described the shooting, which resulted in the death of one man and injuries to another as ‘totally unacceptable’.

In addition, he assured the police of the government’s full support in their crime-fighting efforts. He indicated that the government would have to further strengthen laws to deal with individuals who commit such acts.

Dr. Hilaire’s complete statement appears below:

  1. Lol. Here we go again. Another speech. All talk and No Significant Action. Another useless politician. Plz gv the police more vehicles.

  2. Wow, look who’s addressing crime. Helair my dear minister allow someone else to address crime because it eh looking good for you. No one will listen to you, you’re not a credible person

  3. Hilaire, thanks but no thanks. Enough with your talk. You and your Gorgorment allowed this to happened for too long – much too long. The Gorgorment did everything but to address the problem. Additional vehicles were purchased, additional recruits, RSS were used, still the criminals continue on their killing spree.
With all what was done, there was nothing in place to measure the results. It was like throw stones in the air and pay no attention where it goes.
In your speech tonight, you said the laws were tightened. I have called about ten individuals to fact check the statement. They all believed it was another lie from you. Hilaire Again.
Just around Xmas, the criminals have brought their war to the city. What a shame for a Gorgorment which has been in office for three years plus and they have control over nothing. Health Care is at its worst, unemployment is up in numbers, there is absolutely no security in the country, road fatalities have increased. This government had no plans in the beginning and they still have no plan after three years – SLU is finished.

  4. Everyone one has reason to be scared on the island because criminals are not afraid to act at any given time of day, or any given place. The powers that be refuse to enact laws to put a dent in crime. Non of those politicians yellow, red or blue has a solution for this crime escalation, yet they want to have open borders with other islands. The problem lies in our inability to solve crimes and laws too lenient on criminals. Solve crimes and up the penalty and BINGO. The layman can figure that out.

  5. With the season coming up the police need to beef up daily patrols in the city before the cockroaches come and rob the businesses and the tourist Mr Guard need to tell us what plans he has for the city . We need more police and cctv cameras so many jobs are available in the private sector and the hotels… But those thugs prefer to live at their mothers home sit on the block and smoke weed and crack..

  6. Are we joking????
You bring on Hillaire to speak about crime?
Where is the accountability and transparency on the Juffali Affair and the CIP passport sales.
Why is there secrecy about over $1,000,000,000 in passport revenue?
Why do we need foreigners to give us information on that vast sum of money?
Passports are literally like GOLD discovered on our lands and we hand a foreigner the shovel and pickaxe to dig it up and keep for themselves.
Our internal security has been compromised in this country.
    Our health sector compromised.
    Our financial health co.promised.
Then your answer is to bring on this cold hearted venal joker.

  7. DABAN CHIEN NEG ET VOLAIRE EN SENT LISI. ONLY CAPITAL PUNISHMENT WITH QUELL THE MURDER RATE, CUZ THE SAD TRUTH IS EVERYONE WANTS REVENGE FOR THEIR MURDERED FRIEND,SON,FATHER,DAUGHTER.

  8. St Lucia needs a Civil Guard or National Guard. With so many academically qualified, unemployed youth why not recruit them for mandatory military service for all youth starting at 18 years and use them to secure the country against rampant crime? In fact why not use CIP monies for that purpose. Stop talking and start doing something ministers, prime and otherwise.

  9. Sheer absurdity from this guy. You mean to say after a decade plus of utter mayhem, we have not tightened all the screws. What are we waiting for? Maybe a St. Valentine’s Day Massacre type should do it. At this point we should be at full throttle against criminals.

The simple fact, this reveals how unprepared these people really are. The entire blame is not on the police; even though the politicians would like you to believe that. The police are not responsible for bail and recycling criminals. The judiciary handles bail. However, it is government, through legislation, can stop bail for illegal weapons. That move is a lynchpin in the fight against serious crime.

Next, the security plans handed to the prime minister must be reviewed by a professional. I believe we had two security plans in one year. He and the people around him are not equipped to pass those reviews. A plan is s living document that can be altered as the situation develops (keeping in mind the originators intent). The fact that we are changing plans like underwear shows a deficiency in the system. I know a thing or two about plans and I know how the system works. At plan review briefings, the documents go through rigid scrutiny from an EXPERIENCED commander. Only after all the questions are answered will he/she approve the plan. I eh tink we dere yet. It’s a joke.

These guys are tinkering with something they know nothing about.

  10. “Unacceptable?” What does he think it is? A dress code violation? Assassination in broad daylight. In the public square. Perpetrators should have been apprehended by now. Saint Lucians sing like canaries.
    Apply pressure.

  11. I don’t know what to believe in St. Lucia. When the politicians talk all you criticizing them, when the Don’t utter a word all you talking the same nonesense. So what can we do?

  12. The King’s feverent and servant,
It was there longago (at the begining of creation (murder)
But God give us as an exange for our reason for living, that God did not send his Son in Vain into this world to condemn but rather to save sinners,
therefore let us look to our Maker and our eyes to the Holy One..
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it 🌿 without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yeilds seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth..
🌿It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it
    ………..
