Three Officers Injured In Road Incident

On Wednesday, three male police officers were nursing injuries at the hospital after their vehicle veered off the road and down a precipice near Balembouche.

According to reports, the officers were on their way to a military funeral in Vieux Fort.

The road incident, which occurred at about midday, is said to have been the result of brake failure, raising concerns about vehicular safety for law enforcement.

Emergency services arrived promptly with two ambulances and a rescue unit and transported the officers to the hospital.

One officer had a suspected fractured right upper extremity and the other two had minor injuries.

There are no further details at present.

  1. Thank God they are relatively ok.

The life of a Police Officer is never safe. I note that there was a mechanical problem (brakes). However, some officers overspeed and do not drive defensively. As long as they have their siren on, they assume that it is safe to drive fast and in the middle of the road. Tell me something, unless if it is a murder that you are rushing to prevent, the Police should not be driving so fast. You not an ambulance.

A new style I notice in the North these days. It is a hearse belonging to Lazarus or Crick Funeral home being led by a Pick up with a Siren. This van is famous for blairing a siren and driving through traffic. It has a dark tint so you don’t know if it is a Police Officer, or Traffic officer driving. This guy (or girl) drives very fast and unsafe. I will withhold sharing the number plate this time around. Can the authorities indicate if this is Government sanctioned? Is this private twin cab van acting in their private or official capacity? I am sure that I am not the only one on the Gros-Islet Castries highway who is aware of that.
Back to the hearse, I witnessed this bizarre situation with a hearse speeding behind the Van with a siren, twice in one week.

The first time I thought it was amusing but the second time I felt it was ridiculous. I even have photos in front of Total Auto by the Vigie field.

    Only in St Lucia

  2. In St. Lucia, “brake failure” is a euphemism for driving with unserviceable brakes. “I pressing de ting but it eh stopping.” “I mashing it, but it still eh stopping.”
For the uninformed, there, you have it.

  3. The person u really late. Our traffic department is the new Escort Service. They escort dead ppl and live dignataories incl white cruise ship tourists. I suspect they get pd either thru alcohol or money. Cause that’s the pnly time u see traffic police on our roads. PJP busy buying vehicles to add to the escort service fleet. Just wait for th ecoaster of tourist or bushwacker. Coming soon for your camera.
