As the holiday season draws to a close, vendors in Saint Lucia have shared mixed views on their Christmas sales this year. While some expressed concerns over slower sales, others remained optimistic, adapting to the ongoing economic challenges.
Despite the obstacles, many vendors reported steady business and were grateful for the support from the community.
One vendor noted that sales were not as brisk as last year, attributing the slowdown to the financial strain many families faced in 2024.
“Things were a little harder this year. People were holding on to their money to buy food or provide for their children,” said the vendor, highlighting the impact of the tough economic climate. “Sales were not very fast, but they were okay. It could have been worse, considering the economy.”
Another added: “Every day wasn’t the same, but we were doing alright.”
One of the others had a more positive outlook, offering cheerful greetings to customers and expressing satisfaction with the turnout: “Seasons Greetings to everyone…sales were great. Our customers were coming in and we were excited to offer something for everyone.”
Vendors offered a wide array of Christmas-themed items, including socks, hairballs, t-shirts, sunglasses, tumblers, and festive Christmas boxes. Many stayed open until about 6 p.m., accommodating shoppers who worked late and needed time to shop in the final days leading up to Christmas.
While some vendors faced slower sales, they remained committed to providing quality products and excellent service throughout the holiday season. Many expressed gratitude for the local community’s support, holding on to the hope that the new year would bring better opportunities for businesses.
