Two Saint Lucians who had reportedly been adrift on a 22-foot boat for more than a month were rescued in the San Andrés archipelago by the Colombian Navy, and efforts are underway to return them home.
Their names have not been disclosed, but photos were published in local media on Thursday.
The exact circumstances that led to their ordeal at sea remain unclear.
Fishermen had alerted authorities to the duo’s drifting vessel, which was located approximately 32 nautical miles off Cayo Serranilla. The Colombian Navy responded to the distress call.
Rear Admiral Alfonso Córdoba, Commander of the San Andrés and Providencia Specific Command, confirmed that the two were in good health, according to El Isleño.
He added that they received immediate medical attention and would be transported to San Andrés, where local authorities would coordinate their safe return to Saint Lucia.
