The aroma of hot meals and warm smiles filled communities across Saint Lucia last weekend as the Do-Nation Foundation transformed Good Deeds Day into a movement they hope will have a lasting impact.
What began as a single day of service on April 6 has blossomed into an ongoing mission to address food insecurity islandwide.
“Yes, we celebrated Good Deeds Day on April 6, but we do good every time,” said Diane Felicien, founder and CEO of the Do-Nation Foundation and Good Deeds Day Leader for Saint Lucia and the Caribbean.
Her team served 450 meals across Anse La Raye, Canaries, Soufrière, and Dennery through pop-up soup kitchens, with another 200 planned for Vieux Fort this week.
The soup kitchen was made possible through the support of corporate and other partners, including Maggi—along with agents Massy Distribution and Massy Stores—Inspire Me of Soufrière, Parents In Action of Anse La Raye, Youth of Flames Movement of Anse La Raye, and Volunteer Saint Lucia chapters from Gros Islet, Castries and Dennery.
Other supporters included the Edwards Family of Dennery, Marla Gustave, Social Transformation Officer for Anse La Raye and Canaries, volunteers from the Do-Nation Foundation, Ms Good Deeds Day 2024 Elvina Emmanuel, and contestants from the Good Deeds Day pageants of 2023, 2024, and 2025.
“The day really left a lasting impression on them in terms of the importance of taking care of our senior and vulnerable persons and not taking a meal for granted,” Felicien said.
Conversations around launching a feeding programme started some time ago, she shared, and this year felt like the right moment to act. “We realised that we have a lot of our vulnerable persons who don’t know where a meal is coming from and, of course, with Maggi coming on board with us, it was a given.”
She cited heartfelt responses from those served—words of blessing and expressions of gratitude through prayer.
Felicien hopes this and other charitable initiatives could grow with broader support from the business community, “so we could extend our reach on a wider scale and also to encourage people to continue to do good.”
Good job. Now all y’all have to do is feed the 450 people everyday. Why not ask the government for some money from citizenship by investment program to sustain your good efforts.
