The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Under-16 boys’ basketball tournament tipped off Monday at the Beausejour Gymnasium, with St Mary’s College (SMC), Leon Hess Comprehensive and Soufriere Comprehensive securing decisive victories.
Six teams will compete over the next three weeks on Thursdays and Mondays, with the final set for Friday, May 30.
SMC thrash PDJSS 66-15
St Mary’s College opened with a commanding rout of Patricia D. James Secondary. Jabari Archibald outscored PDJSS singlehandedly, dropping 22 points on 11-16 shooting, while adding 13 rebounds (10 offensive). Rollins Estwick contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, six steals and three assists in the dominant win. PDJSS struggled with turnovers (16 from Rushawn Williams alone) and managed just 17 total rebounds.
Leon Hess beat CCSS 34-24
Leon Hess Comprehensive survived against Castries Comprehensive powered to victory by Sage Lewis with 24 points and 22 rebounds, despite shooting 11-30. CCSS won the rebounding battle (38-35) but committed 26 turnovers. Jayden Gabriel (8 points, 16 rebounds) led Castries’ effort.
Soufriere edge past Entrepot 30-27
Soufriere Comprehensive escaped with a narrow win over Entrepot Secondary, fuelled by Chaz Alexander’s 18 points, 15 rebounds and six steals. Entrepot’s Yanic Melius and Rohn Cox combined for 12 points but fell just short.
Up Next: Thursday’s matchups could secure early semifinal spots for SMC, Soufriere or Leon Hess. SMC face Entrepot, CCSS take on Soufriere, and Leon Hess meet PDJSS.
