Bronze for Saint Lucia in Pan Am Swimming

Jayden Xu secured Saint Lucia’s first medal on Thursday at the inaugural PanAm Aquatics Championships, earning bronze in the 13-15 boys’ 50m backstroke at the Complejo Acuático César Zapata in Medellín, Colombia.

After posting the third-fastest qualifying time (29.90 seconds) in the heats, Xu delivered a strong finish in the final, clocking 29.37 seconds, just 0.1 per cent shy of his personal best. Colombia’s Nicolás Lacharme Valencia (29.24) and Peru’s Carlos Andrés Díaz Lecca (29.29) took gold and silver, respectively.

Meanwhile, Naekeisha Louis reached the final in the 19-22 women’s 50m breaststroke, placing fifth with a personal-best 36.79, a 4.5 per cent improvement from her previous record. Colombia’s Stefania Gómez Hurtado won gold in 31.36 seconds, narrowly missing her career best.

Louis also competed in the 100m freestyle prelims, finishing 14th overall (1:02.69), slightly improving her lifetime best.

Noah Dorville made his debut in the 13-15 boys’ 200m freestyle, placing 14th. All three swimmers return to action on Friday with Xu & Dorville in the 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly and Louis in the 50m butterfly.
