U-16 School Hoops Wide Open

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Under-16 Boys’ Basketball Tournament resumes on Monday, after Thursday’s results shook up the standings.

Entrepot Secondary School and Castries Comprehensive Secondary School each got their first wins, beating St Mary’s College and Soufrière Comprehensive, respectively. Five games have now been completed in this competition, and five of the six teams have one win each.

Action moved to the Vigie Sports Complex, as the Beausejour Gymnasium was temporarily unavailable. Two of the three scheduled games were played. The fixture between between Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School and Patricia D James Secondary School was postponed.

In the opening game, ESS prevailed in a slugfest, beating SMC 15-13. Imani Gonzague dropped six points and grabbed two rebounds. Yanick Melius, Tyler Charles, Rohn Cox, and Cersim Alexander also scored for Entrepot. For SMC, who struggled after winning their opener, Jabari Archibald had four points, four steals, and a block. 

CCSS also bounced back big time, with a win over SCSS 27-14. David Chandler was brilliant with eight points, 11 rebounds, five steals, two assists and five blocks. Jeannael Louis added eight points and six rebounds, and Jayden Gabriel six points and 12 rebounds. Chaz Alexander’s eight points, five rebounds and seven steals kept SCSS in the contest.

With the path to the semifinals still wide open, the tournament resumes on Monday at Beausejour with another scheduled tripleheader. CCSS and ESS play the opening game, followed by PDJSS and SCSS, and SMC against LHCSS.
