Saint Lucian standout Yadhu Urs has been named the 2024-2025 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men’s Golfer of the Year, becoming just the second Ohio Dominican University (ODU) student-athlete to receive the honour in the programme’s 14-year Division II era. A senior at ODU, Urs had previously earned G-MAC All-Conference recognition.
Urs was not the only Panther recognised by the head coaches of the G-MAC this season. Head coach Chris Deibel was named Coach of the Year, and senior Jeremiah Bane also secured a spot on the All-Conference team.
Urs follows in the footsteps of Robert Holden (2022) as the second Panther to claim the G-MAC’s top golf honour. Urs, from Castries, Saint Lucia, was the lone representative of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championships last week in Florida, after advancing out of the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional with a fourth-place finish. That performance placed him on the All-Conference team for the third straight year.
Urs led the Panthers with a scoring average of 72.5 this season over 33 rounds, shooting under par 11 times. That average is the second-best for a season in ODU history. He also holds the third-best season average.
Across 13 tournaments, the St Mary’s College alumnus recorded four top-five finishes and eight top-10s, with his best results being three fourth-place finishes: at the Malone-Glenmoor Fall Invitational, the G-MAC Men’s Golf Championship, and the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional.
Deibel led the Panthers to several team-best marks this season. The Panthers advanced to the M-MAC medal match, sweeping Findlay 5-0 for the team’s first conference title. With the G-MAC title win, ODU qualified for the NCAA Regional for just the second time in the Division II era (2011-present). At the regional, the team placed ninth out of 20, with Urs advancing to Nationals, just as Holden did in 2022.
Bane averaged 72.6 per round in 30 rounds (12 events), ranking just behind Urs for the team’s second-best mark.. This was Bane’s second straight year on the All-Conference team, becoming the third player in the Division II era to have multiple All-Conference seasons.
