Johnnel Eugene Shines in Spice Isle T10

Saint Lucia’s Johnnel Eugene was one of the standout players in the fifth edition of the Dream11 Spice Isle T10, which concluded in Grenada this week.

The 25-year-old all-rounder represented the Ginger Generals, finishing in the top 10 for both batting and bowling as his team secured fourth place. The Generals avenged their regular-season loss to the Real Property Grenada Bayleaf Blasters with a strong showing in the tournament.

Playing in eight matches, the Gros Islet native claimed 11 wickets with his right-arm medium pace, boasting an impressive economy rate of just 7.5 runs per over and an average of 13.64. Only two bowlers took more wickets in the competition.

With the bat, Eugene compiled 163 runs, including a top score of 45. Fresh off setting the record for the highest individual score in the Saint Lucia Premier League, the top-order batter finished 10th in the tournament’s run-scoring charts. He maintained a solid average of 27.17 and a strike rate of 161.39, marking a strong comeback after suffering a hand injury in last year’s edition.

Eugene’s upward trajectory continues as he prepares to represent the Amazonian Warriors in the Saint Lucia T10 Blast, set to begin on June 24 at Mindoo Phillip Park. Since making his regional debut for the Windward Islands in both List A and first-class cricket last November, his career has been on the rise. The talented all-rounder previously captained the Windward Islands at the Under-19 level.

The 2025 Dream11 Spice Isle T10 was won by the Nutmeg Warriors, led by former West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Andre Fletcher, in an emotional finale at La Sagesse Playing Field. Fletcher’s victory came on the same day as his father’s passing, adding a poignant note to the tournament’s conclusion.
