The investigation into the fatal stabbing of national footballer Sherman Augustin remains ongoing, with police working to obtain and analyse CCTV footage from multiple locations, according to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
At a press briefing held Thursday at police headquarters in Chesterfield, Castries, Assistant Commissioner of Police Luke Defreitas said efforts are focused on gathering surveillance video to better understand the events surrounding Augustin’s death.
“At this point, we are still in the process of trying, through the use of CCTV, to gather as much footage as we can and piece them together,” Defreitas explained. “Because, you will understand that the incident would have occurred over a distance and not just in one particular location.”
Augustin was reportedly stabbed on Carnival Monday. While initial reports suggested the incident occurred in Vigie, Defreitas said, “Our attention would have been drawn to it at Sans Souci, but there are other areas involved in the investigation…”
He offered no further details. “At this point, I can tell you that, of course, he was stabbed, and his cause of death would have been excessive bleeding,” Defreitas said. “So this is as far as I will go at this point.”
