Calderon, Charles, Symphorian among winners in table tennis champs

Several categories are still to be decided in the 2025 National Table Tennis Championships, with semifinals and finals to be played this week. Shatal Charles and Daniella Symphorian have won two titles to date. DeAndre Calderon has been part of two title teams thus far, and is aiming for further glory this week at the Castries Table Tennis Centre.

On the weekend, the youthful pair of Charles and Symphorian (Team Eagles) captured the senior women’s team title, defeating veterans Shirmain Blasse-Hyacinth and Cherese Darcheville in the final. Zariane Anthony and Mia George placed third. Charles and Symphorian also took the women’s doubles.

Anthony had better fortune in the mixed doubles final, where she partnered Calderon to beat teenagers Shatal Charles and Leshon Francis. Charles and Francis overcame Stephen Steele and Daniella Symphorian for their spot in the title match. Anthony and Calderon topped Manie Eleuthere and Mia George.

Calderon also teamed up with Dawitt Nurse to capture the senior men’s doubles crown. The 2023 champions played unbeaten, triumphing over Pan Am Junior Games representatives Manie Eleuthere and Joshua Lubin 3-1. The iconic duo of Adrian Albert and Chris Wells defeated Leshon Harris and Stephen Steele in the third-place playoff.

Still to come is action in men’s teams, women’s and men’s singles, junior girls’ singles, and junior open. The team’s event will see the semis and final on Tuesday. Defending champs Eagles (Calderon and Stephen Steele) are into the penultimate round of play, along with Mambas (Lubin and Eleuthere), Rising Stars (Leshon Francis, Khamari Harris, and Shatal Charles), and Warriors (Nurse and Wells).

Junior events will be played on Wednesday from 10 a.m.
