The Saint Lucia Squash and Racquet Association retained faith in president Christopher Thakur and vice president Dr Carlos Segovia, when the organisation held its annual general meeting last Wednesday at Olympic House in La Clery. Both were returned unopposed for a second term.
An electrical engineer by profession, Thakur’s first term focused on reintegrating Saint Lucia into the international squash community. In 2022, the local federation joined the Pan Am Squash Federation. The current term, the federation said, will seek to grow the sport locally.
“With squash now added as an Olympic sport, the association has seen an influx of new members and renewed energy on the courts,” read a release. “The new executive, the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, and the Saint Lucia Yacht Club will all be working together towards producing Saint Lucia’s newest Olympians.”
The association’s rebuilding efforts continue with new faces on the executive, including treasurer Mairi Low, secretary Nathalie Georgios, tournament director Felix Louisy, junior representative Monique Lovell, and floor members Zandra Perreira, Lyndel Norville and Everistus Jn Marie Jr.
The association also took the opportunity of its AGM to recognise the sterling contributions of former national champion and Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States gold medallist, Charlie Sonson. Sonson was presented with a plaque and honorary membership. He committed to helping the association with coaching in his free time.
