‘Kakal’ Unveiled as UWP Candidate for Vieux Fort North

Career lawman and entertainer Calixte “Kakal” Xavier has officially joined the political race, completing the United Workers Party’s slate of candidates for the upcoming general election. Xavier will go head-to-head with MP for Vieux Fort North, Moses Jn Baptiste, who has represented the constituency since 2006.

Xavier was unveiled at a UWP event over the weekend, telling supporters: “I am not here to sing for you, and I am not here to dance to the beats of drums; I am here in the capacity of a leader.”

The newcomer to politics is no stranger to public life, having built a reputation as both a police officer and an entertainer. Over the years, Xavier has also been a pointed critic of the current administration, often voicing his disapproval through his music. At the UWP event, he turned that voice toward the issue of crime, questioning the government’s approach.

“Why are we not under a state of emergency when the streets themselves are screaming with urgency?” he asked, drawing strong reactions from the crowd.

In his maiden political speech, Xavier cast himself as an agent of change, pledging to bring what he defines as fresh energy and a new direction to Vieux Fort North.

“Leadership in that of Calixte “Kakal” Xavier, from neglect to progressive, the man to right the wrong in Vieux Fort North, I am your humble servant,” he said.
