Gros Islet Playing Field to be officially renamed Gros Islet Mini Stadium

A new era dawns for the Gros Islet sporting community on September 6, with the renaming of the Gros Islet Playing Field to the Gros Islet Mini Stadium.

The official ceremony, hosted by the Gros Islet Parliamentary Office, will follow the first of two Saint Lucia Semi-Professional Football League fixtures, beginning at 6 p.m. Cabinet dignitaries, including Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre and Minister of Youth Development and Gros Islet Parliamentary Representative Kenson Casamir, are expected to attend the landmark event.

This renaming follows months of refurbishment at the facility. The installation of new seating, lights, and other upgrades has elevated the venue’s hosting capabilities, making it suitable for both local and regional fixtures in the north of the island.

At the September 1 pre-cabinet press briefing, Casamir revealed the stands will be named in honour of individuals who contributed to the constituency’s development.

“We will be renaming the stadium. We will be renaming the stands at the stadium and also projecting some other events that will occur at the Gros Islet Mini Stadium. We are using the theme, The Legacy of Gros Islet. We will be highlighting some of those who truly contributed to sports development in the constituency. We will be paying homage to them. We’re expecting a bumper crowd at the Gros Islet Mini Stadium.”

Major announcements, the details of which have not yet been disclosed, are also expected at the ceremony. Additionally, attendees will be treated to performances from some of Saint Lucia’s most prominent artists.
