The media landscape of Saint Lucia is in mourning following the sudden passing of veteran broadcaster Tony Paul, who died in the early hours of Sunday September 7, 2025. His death has left fans, family, and colleagues stunned, struggling to come to terms with the loss of a man remembered not just for his voice on the airwaves, but for his warmth, humour, and generosity of spirit.
Tony, co-owner of Rev-Up St Lucia alongside his brother Andre Paul, was a towering presence in the island’s media industry. Known for his booming voice, sharp wit, and love for football, he was a fixture both on the air and in his community.
His brother and business partner, Andre, recounted the heartbreaking night Tony died. He remembered seeing him earlier in the evening, laughing and sharing stories with friends as he so often did. Hours later, Andre was awakened by their neighbour, Josie, only to be told Tony had collapsed and was being rushed to hospital.
“I saw the lights of the ambulance and I realized something was really wrong,” Andre shared. “When I got to the hospital, I was expecting to see Tony stabilized. But after half an hour, the doctor came to me and said, ‘We tried our best, but your brother didn’t make it.’ That was the moment it hit me that Tony was really gone.”
“They showed me where they tried the shock treatment and so on. And I touched his head, such as his arms and so on. He was actually still warm. He was still warm”. Andre said.
For Andre, the memory of seeing his brother still warm on the hospital bed, and later zipped away by the funeral home, remains one of the most painful reminders of the night his best friend and brother slipped away.
Tony’s longtime partner, Michelle, spoke through tears about the deep love they shared. The couple had been together for nearly a decade and had planned to marry next Valentine’s Day.
“Tony made me feel special every single day,” she said. “He never disrespected me, never argued with me. He kept reminding me that I was the best of his best, and I told him he was mine. I will never find another man like Tony.” Saturdays were their sacred time together, she added, a weekly tradition they both treasured. The night he died, she had just prepared hamburgers for him, a gesture of love that now feels like a final memory.
Saint Lucia Times spoke to a close family friend and neighbour Josie Larcher, who had known the Paul brothers for nearly four decades, described the loss as surreal.
“Tony was one of the best neighbours anyone could ask for. Always smiling, always greeting everyone. He was full of life,I still feel like I’m dreaming” she said. “Without Tony, the community won’t be the same. We will miss him daily. He was the best neighbor, the best friend, the best in everything I can think of I wish I could get another neighbor like Tony. I hope so.”
Across the island, tributes have poured in. Fellow media colleague Barbara Jacobs Small reflected on his humour and passion for radio. “Andre Paul and Tony Paul were born to do radio. It was their lifelong passion. Tony laughed a lot, he was funny, funny, funny. For now, your voice has gone silent on this side of eternity, but rest assured you made people happy and feel seen.”
Media colleague Zinita St. Helene also expressed her grief in a heartfelt Facebook post. “Tony, I am speechless and hurting. You were my inspiration in media, my biggest fan, even before I entered the industry. This is very, very hurtful.”
While the news of his passing continue to ripple across Saint Lucia, ot remains that Tony Paul’s legacy stretches far beyond the radio studio. He was a pillar of his community, a devoted partner, a loyal brother, and a man who gave joy freely to those around him.
His voice may be silent, but the echoes of his laughter, his kindness, and his passion for media will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
