Millennium Heights Medical Complex conducts mobile blood bank drive

The Millennium Heights Medical Complex has announced a week-long mobile blood bank initiative to encourage voluntary blood donation and strengthen the island’s blood supply.

The drive began on September 22 at the Owen King EU Hospital and will continue across several locations. On September 23, the team will be at the Saint Lucia National Archives in Castries from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; on September 24, at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; on September 25, at Sunny Acres Mall from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and on September 26, at William Peter Boulevard from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Members of the public are invited to participate, and for more information, they can contact (758) 458-6733 or (758) 729-9642.

In Saint Lucia, the National Blood Bank manages the collection, testing, storage and distribution of blood.

Donations are voluntary and unpaid, with blood collected at fixed hospital sites such as Owen King EU Hospital, St Jude Hospital, and Victoria Hospital, as well as through mobile drives like this upcoming initiative. However, the system often faces shortages, as demand for blood in emergencies, surgeries and for chronic conditions like sickle cell disease frequently exceeds supply.

To close this gap, regular public participation is essential, and initiatives such as the mobile blood bank aim to make donating easier and more accessible.
