MOH to focus on Breast Cancer Awareness Month with several campaigns

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs has announced a series of initiatives for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025, aimed at promoting breast health and encouraging early detection across Saint Lucia. Breast cancer and cancer in general, are among the non-communicable diseases plaguing the nation. Therefore, the ministry has seen fit to raise awareness in this regard.

The following are some of initiatives that will be held in this awareness drive:

  1. Pink Fridays will be observed island-wide, inviting workplaces and communities to wear pink and decorate spaces to honor survivors and raise awareness
  2. Community Wellness Centres will host “dedicated screening days and awareness displays” throughout October to engage residents in breast health education
  3. A social media challenge will be held to encourage individuals and businesses to post one healthy habit they’ll adopt this month using the hashtags #WholeYou2025 and #PinkPower
  4. Secondary school girls will benefit from targeted education sessions under the theme Embrace Your Whole Self: ‘Check Your Lemons’, with the tagline:
“Be Aware (Your breast or Chest), Take Care (Do regular screening), Share (Your Story), Check, Detect, Protect.”

The Micoud Wellness Centre will also host a 5K Pink Walk and screening event to promote physical activity and solidarity with breast cancer fighters and survivors, with special outreach to Mon Repos, Desruisseaux, Ti Rocher, and Micoud. The ministry urges all citizens and corporate partners to get involved, noting: “Your participation in this campaign is vital as we work together to raise awareness and support those affected by breast cancer.”
