West Indies cricket giants land in SVG for Masters Clash

Cricket fever has gripped St Vincent and the Grenadines as three legends of West Indies cricket; Courtney Walsh, Sir Curtly Ambrose, and Ridley Jacobs, touched down on October 30th at Argyle International Airport. They have arrived for the highly anticipated West Indian Masters XI vs Rest of the World Masters XI T20 showdown.

The historic clash is scheduled for November 1, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Arnos Vale Cricket Stadium. This special Masters event is a significant feature of the nation’s Independence celebrations and highlights St Vincent and the Grenadines’ growing presence in sports tourism.

On October 31, at 1:00 p.m., they will attend a special Under-19 exhibition match at the Cumberland Playing Field. This initiative offers students from schools across North Leeward a unique opportunity to meet, interact with, and be inspired by the cricket icons. The goal is to motivate the next generation of Vincentian cricketers and underscore the importance of youth empowerment through sport.

Hon. Carlos James, minister of tourism, civil aviation, sustainable development, and culture, expressed his excitement about the visit, “We are honoured to welcome these iconic ambassadors of Caribbean cricket to St Vincent and the Grenadines. Their presence signals an exciting moment for cricket lovers and a milestone for our sports tourism agenda. As we continue to elevate St Vincent and the Grenadines on the international stage, events such as these bring tremendous pride, economic benefit, and inspiration to our young people. We look forward to welcoming fans from near and far as we celebrate excellence, legacy, and Caribbean pride.”

Annette Mark, CEO of the SVG Tourism Authority, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the lasting impact of the visit, “Hosting legends of this magnitude reinforces our commitment to positioning St Vincent and the Grenadines as a premier destination for sports and events tourism. Their interaction with our youth and communities will leave a lasting legacy of inspiration and national pride. We encourage everyone to come out, show support, and be part of this historic sporting moment.”
