Venezuela ships 46 tonnes of aid supplies to Jamaica, Cuba

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has delivered a substantial shipment of 46 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the sister nations of Cuba and Jamaica, both severely impacted by Hurricane Melissa.

The operation, announced by the Venezuelan Embassy in Saint Lucia and led by the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, shows Venezuela’s commitment to regional solidarity.

The airlifted shipment includes essential supplies such as food, medicines, medical supplies, mattresses, and other equipment aimed at immediately addressing the most urgent needs of the affected communities:

  • Cuba received 26 tonnes of aid, with the dispatch supervised directly by Minister Yván Gil.
  • Jamaica received 20 tonnes, led by Vice Minister Raúl Li Causi.

During the dispatch, Gil underscored the nature of Venezuela’s efforts, drawing a contrast with other regional actors. “We are sending 20 tonnes to Jamaica and 26 tonnes to Cuba. While other countries focus on threatening and destabilising the Caribbean, Venezuela, and ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America) stand firm, offering cooperation, peace, and solidarity,” he affirmed.

This initiative was symbolic, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Bolívar–Martí Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement. Signed on October 30, 2000, by Commanders Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro, the agreement is a historic milestone that embodies the spirit of brotherhood and complementarity between Venezuela and Cuba.

Ambassador of Cuba to Venezuela, Jorge Luis Mayo Fernández, highlighted the profound meaning of the gesture: “The solidarity of the Bolivarian people toward Cuba is permanent… While the empire threatens, Venezuela crosses the Caribbean not with aircraft carriers, but with planes filled with solidarity and love. They carry no weapons — only food and medicines.”

Venezuelan authorities further reported that this initial air phase will be followed by a significantly larger operation, a maritime shipment currently being prepared to deliver over 3 000 tonnes of additional aid to the Republic of Cuba in the coming days.

Through this decisive action, Venezuela once again affirms its Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, grounded in integration, cooperation, and solidarity among the peoples of the Caribbean, particularly as they face the escalating common challenges posed by climate change. (PR)
