Fifth Saint Lucian extradited to Martinique to face criminal charges

Deshawn Rene, a 25-year-old resident of Barre Denis, Castries, was formally extradited to Martinique on Thursday, November 6, to face serious criminal charges, local authorities have announced.

The handover, carried out in a coordinated operation between the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force and the Bordelais Correctional Facility, saw Rene transferred to an escort team from the neighbouring French territory.

He faces nine charges, including fraud, three counts of armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping, and murder.

Rene is the fifth individual extradited to Martinique from Saint Lucia this year.

Cletus Mushu Polius, Yannick Tiny Gervan Gustave, Michael Zenegaar, and Fabian Cherubin were previously extradited to Martinque.
