EV Lucian Car Expo Charges Up Sustainable Driving

This year’s EV Lucian Car Show and Trade Expo opened with a call to view vehicles as a catalyst for sustainable living.

The event, organised by Accela Marketing in partnership with the Government of Saint Lucia, brought together automotive dealers, industry experts and curious citizens eager to explore cleaner, more resilient transport solutions.

“EV Lucian is more than just about cars; it’s about change,” said Agnes Francis, Accela’s managing director, in an introductory speech. “It’s about how we move, how we power our lives and how to protect this beautiful island we call home.”

The expo, held on November 15 at the Caribbean Cinemas Car Park, offered a practical and interactive introduction to electric vehicle (EV) technology.

On display were a wide range of electric and hybrid vehicles, both new and used, alongside home charging systems, solar energy setups and financing services. Many visitors took the opportunity to test drive vehicles and experience firsthand how the technology performs on the road.

“Well, it’s pretty cool to see all these vehicles here,” said one attendee. “I didn’t even know we had so many types of electric vehicles in the country. We need more expos like this.”

A standout feature of the expo was the workshop series focused on demystifying electric vehicles and empowering the public with knowledge. Electric Vehicles 101, presented by the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, covered the basics of EVs, how they work, and why they’re suitable for Saint Lucia. GIZ led a session on EV Battery Technology & Recycling, highlighting the importance of responsible disposal and battery lifecycle management. Renewable Energy & EV Charging, facilitated by Eco Carib, explored how solar power integrates into the EV ecosystem. LUCELEC wrapped up with a practical session guiding drivers on how to access the national charging network, the types of chargers available, adapter compatibility and how to register.

“These sessions were designed to answer your questions, clear up doubts, and help you feel confident about making the switch to electric,” said Francis.

The expo was supported by a range of sponsors, with the Government of Saint Lucia listed as Co-Title Sponsor. Republic Bank (EC) Limited and Beacon Insurance provided premium sponsorship, while LUCELEC, JQ Motors, Bank of Saint Lucia and Zenobia Pro Events contributed as bronze-level sponsors.
