Pilgrim endorses Stanley Felix, warns against corruption in politics

Former Prime Minister Michael “Mikey” Pilgrim publicly endorsed independent candidate Stanley Felix in the Castries Central race during an address aired on DBS on November 25.

He urged voters to raise the standards they expect from their leaders, framing his endorsement around what he described as “widespread” corruption, which he says has plagued the country for years.

Comparing today’s political climate to his own era in elective politics, he said corruption was once “minuscule” but has now grown to the point where it is being “accepted as a culture”.

Turning his attention to the Castries Central race, Pilgrim categorised the three candidates as “the good, the bad, and the gentle”.

He said that voters should choose the person who best reflects the qualities of a “good candidate”: humble, not corrupt, not viewed as a criminal, respectful of women, not ruthless, greedy or selfish, not pompous or deceitful, and honest and trustworthy.

“If the person you are considering does not meet this standard,” he said, “they are not a fit and proper person to be elected.”

Speaking directly to residents of Morne Du Don, Wilton’s Yard, Leslie Land, Sans Souci, Georgeville, Barnard Hill, La Pansee, Rose Hill, Conway, Darling Road, Waterworks Road, Riverside Road, Vigie, and the CDC apartments, Pilgrim urged them to vote decisively for Felix.

“I appeal to all voters in Central Castries… to cast your vote for Stanley,” he said, describing Felix as genuine and sincere, and someone who would “work for the people and not himself”.
