Turnout, results, rejected ballots: How Saint Lucians voted

According to the preliminary statistics from the Electoral Department, 89 448 Saint Lucians cast ballots in the December 1 general election, out of 184 654 registered electors. The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) emerged with 14 seats, while two independent candidates were returned to office. The United Workers Party (UWP) secured a single seat.

This year’s vote also saw a rise in rejected ballots: 1 980 were discarded, up from 1 694 in the previous election. Electoral Department head Herman St. Helen described the increase as troubling, particularly in Gros Islet, where rejected votes were notably high.

“This is too many, way too many,” he told reporters. “I’m thinking, maybe what can make it simpler; at one time there was the issue of using the voting stamp. I believe if we use the voting stamps, we will reduce the number of rejected ballots even more significantly.”

Below is a constituency-by-constituency breakdown of the 2025 results:

Gros Islet

The country’s largest constituency saw 12 350 voters participate out of 25 831 electors. SLP incumbent Kenson Casimir won decisively with 8 175 votes, defeating his sole challenger Marcella Johnson, who received 3 861 votes.

Rejected ballots: 314.

Babonneau

Of 13 905 electors, 6 718 voted. First-time candidate John Paul Estaphane of the SLP secured 3 918 votes, defeating the UWP’s Titus Preville, who received 2 747 votes (41.2 per cent).

Rejected ballots: 53.

Castries North

With the largest field of candidates, Castries North’s 12 706 electors were contested by five nominees. Independent incumbent Stephenson King retained his seat with 3 485 votes (66 per cent) UWP’s Stephen Fevrier received 1 722 votes; Independent Marcellus Stiede received 33; Jeana Merlissa Matthew of the National Congress Party (NCP) received 29; Independent Brenda Edwin received ten.

Rejected ballots: 85.

Castries East

SLP leader Philip J. Pierre won in a landslide, receiving 4 014 of the 5 289 votes cast (77.8 per cent). His challenger, UWP’s Peter Denis Chicot, received 1 148 votes.

Rejected ballots: 127.

Total electors: 12 861.

Castries Central

Of 3 682 voters, Independent incumbent Richard Frederick retained the seat with 59.5 per cent of votes. Rosh Clarke received 1 082 votes; Independent Stanley Felix received 369; NCP candidate Andre Robert Matthew received 13.

Rejected ballots: 67.

Voter turnout: 40 per cent.

Castries South

SLP’s Ernest Hilaire won comfortably with 3 228 votes out of 4 942 cast. UWP candidate Tommy Descartes received 1 519 votes; Independent David Hird received 23.

Rejected ballots: 172.

Total electors: 9 795.

Anse La Raye/Canaries

Of 8 940 electors, 4 975 voted. SLP incumbent Wayne Girard held the seat with 2 746 votes, defeating UWP’s Dominic Fedee, who received 2 154 votes.

Rejected ballots: 75.

Soufrière

The constituency recorded 5 210 votes cast from 8 532 electors. In a narrow race, SLP’s Emma Hippolyte received 2 622 votes, edging out the UWP’s Herod Stanislaus, who received 2 442.

Rejected ballots: 146.

Choiseul

Out of 11 539 electors, 5 705 cast ballots. SLP’s Keithson Charles won with 2 941 votes, unseating UWP incumbent Bradley Felix, who received 2 517.

Rejected ballots: 247.

Laborie

Laborie recorded a turnout of 3 244 voters from 7 996 electors, a 40.57 per cent turnout. SLP incumbent Alva Baptiste won by a large margin with 2 612 votes, ahead of UWP’s Laura Romina Jn Pierre, who received 606.

Rejected ballots: 26.

Vieux-Fort South

Of 9 990 electors, 4 851 voted. SLP’s Danny Butcher won with 3 564 votes (75.2 per cent). UWP’s Leanna Johannes-Paul received 1 145 votes; Independent David Troy Charles received 18; Independent Choix Melchoir received 14.

Rejected ballots: 110.

Vieux-Fort North

The constituency saw 3 451 voters participate out of 7 205. SLP incumbent Moses Jn Baptiste received 2 444 votes (72.4 per cent), defeating UWP candidate Calixte Xavier, who received 932.

Rejected ballots: 75.

Micoud South

Of 7 806 electors, 3 964 voted. UWP leader Allen Chastanet retained the party’s only seat, receiving 2 292 votes, 673 more than SLP’s Shanda Harracksingh.

Rejected ballots: 53.

Micoud North

Micoud North recorded 4 080 votes cast from 8 085 electors. SLP’s Jeremiah Norbert won with 2 321 votes, ahead of the UWP’s Elisha Norbert, who received 1 715. Independent Marius Wilson received five votes.

Rejected ballots: 39.

Dennery South

Voter turnout reached 56 per cent, with 3 084 ballots cast. In a race decided by a recount, SLP incumbent Alfred Prospere held the seat with 1 566 votes, narrowly defeating UWP’s Benson Emile, who received 1 507.

Rejected ballots: 133.

Dennery North

A total of 4 873 votes were cast out of 9 261 electors, a turnout of 52.62 per cent. SLP’s Shawn Edward won with 2 786 votes, defeating UWP’s Bradley Fulgence, who received 2 020.

Rejected ballots: 67.

Castries South East

Of 15 491 electors, 7 677 voted, a 49.56 per cent turnout. SLP’s Lisa Jawahir received 4 299 votes; the UWP’s Guy Joseph received 3 187.

Rejected ballots: 191.

  1. 184,000 registered electors in a population of 180,000. Arent people counted as registered voters when they receive a national ID at 18? Are dead people voting too. Some aint right there
