Saint Lucians back from 3×3 basketball training in Nassau

A 12-member Saint Lucian contingent is back home after a five-day stint in The Bahamas, where players, coaches and officials took part in the FIBA Caribbean 3×3 Development Camp and Under-23 Tournament.

The group joined counterparts from the host nation, Cayman Islands, Haiti, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago at the DW Davis Gymnasium and Nassau Beach Soccer Arena.

The women’s team included two recent collegiate players, Dasha Eugene and Keri Ann Lewis, along with Neanna Francois and Jeaneve James. They lost twice to eventual champions Jamaica, 16-2 and 22-4, and fell narrowly to Trinidad and Tobago, 15-12. The Saint Lucian men, Sidney Didier, Jamil James, Jaixan Justin and Junior Dupree, lost 17-10 to Haiti, 16-14 to Cayman Islands, and took Jamaica to overtime, eventually succumbing 12-10.

The Saint Lucia Basketball Federation (SLBF) also sent coaches Colleen Edwards and Christus Michel, along with referee Shadrack Theodore and 3×3 systems manager Christian Seales. Theodore attended a referee development camp, facilitated by American instructor Glenn Tuitt. Seales participated in a clinic to improve the use of the FIBA 3×3 platform and to train new users. Players took part in development sessions led by FIBA 3×3 expert Luca Carvalho.

Staged in partnership with the Olympic Solidarity Programme, the event was part of FIBA’s ongoing push to strengthen the region’s high-performance pathway and accelerate the rapid growth of 3×3 basketball across the Caribbean.

CBC President Leslie Collymore said, “The 3×3 Caribbean Camp and Cup represents our vision for a more unified, competitive and development-driven basketball ecosystem across the region, not only in 3×3 but holistically. We look forward to shaping the future of Caribbean basketball, one camp, one stop, one athlete at a time.”

The SLBF received support from the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee, National Lotteries Authority and Saint Lucia Tourism Authority to make the trip possible for the young athletes.
