Minister Baptiste puts nutrition at heart of government agenda

Minister for Health and Wellness Moses Jn Baptiste has urged that nutrition be placed at the centre of government policy, telling senior officials at a recent strategic meeting that “in every aspect of our work, we focus on good nutrition and effective nutrition”.

The high-level gathering at Bay Gardens Hotel brought together ministry leaders, hospital executives and regional partners to align priorities for 2026/2027.

According to Permanent Secretary Jenny Daniel, the meeting served as an opportunity to establish a shared understanding of the ministry’s mandate.

“We really got a snapshot of what the Ministry has done over the last four to five years, where we are, what is the state of healthcare in Saint Lucia, and basically what are the government policies that we need to consider as we strategise and as we move forward,” she said.

Jn Baptiste indicated that the gathering provided an opportunity for synergy to be developed between various stakeholders.

“We want to work with all other ministries, all other government departments to ensure that in every aspect of our work, we focus on good nutrition and effective nutrition,” he said.

“I spent some time today to explain the objectives of the government over the next five years. We went through the manifesto of the party during our campaign and to see what is in there for health and to explain to the staff that the promises are really the blueprint for the way forward. And I was very pleased with the discussions.”

The relocation of St Jude Hospital remains one of the ministry’s most pressing logistical challenges this term.
