Legacy returns for Independence with ‘a show of nonstop hits’

Legacy, which has become a staple on Saint Lucia’s Independence calendar over the years, is back with another star-studded lineup, promising an evening of nostalgia, culture, and high-energy performances.

Set for February 7 at the Rodney Bay Pavilion from 8:00 p.m., the show will bring together Saint Lucian calypso legends, rising young talents and regional icons. Headlining this year’s edition is the “undisputed Queen of Soca,” Destra Garcia, whose catalogue includes timeless hits such as Lucy, It’s Carnival, and Just a Little Bit.

“You can expect Legacy to be a show of nonstop hits and lots of memories flooding back through the years,” said Teddy Francis, one of the visionaries behind the show.

“It provides early momentum to the Independence celebrations and promises to be a highlight of the season, as it always is. We are happy to bring Caribbean icons together, sharing the stage and the knowledge with our Saint Lucian icons and young talents.”

The Saint Lucian cast will be anchored by former Soca Monarchs Teddyson John, Arthur Allain, and Alpha, crowd favourites whose infectious sound has resonated with audiences both at home and abroad. They will be joined by reigning Triple Crown winner Dezral alongside a strong supporting lineup of local stars including Ashanti, Educator, Mantius, Blackeye, and Short Pants.

Francis noted that Legacy continues to play an important role in expanding the reach of calypso and soca beyond the Carnival calendar.

Legacy breaks the seasonality that calypso often suffers from, being constrained to the Carnival season,” he said. “Over the last eight years of Legacy, we’ve seen growth and exposure for artistes, and continued promotion of calypso and soca outside of Carnival.”
