NGFC, Monchy get winning starts in Bay Bay Cup

A pair of experienced and talented youngsters gave New Generation FC a brilliant start to the 2026 Kenson Casimir Bay Bay Cup football tournament, with a 9-0 win over Dominators FC on January 25, at the Francis Baba Lastic Grounds in Gros Islet. Monchy United also got off to a winning start.

New Generation, a guest team from the neighbouring community of Babonneau, were paced by Yanic Noel and 2024 youth footballer of the year Shevon Byron in the Group A rout of Grande Riviere-based Dominators.

Araon Richards opened the scoring in the 12th minute, and by halftime, Byron and Lee Edward had scored as well, for a 3-0 advantage. Six minutes into the second frame, however, Noel got in on the act. He went on to net a hat-trick, as did Byron, whilst Tennyson Burke had an own goal.

In the second fixture, a Group B matchup, veteran striker Troy Greenidge netted in the fifth minute against Northern United. Northern opened the second half with a flurry of attacks, but lacked the decisive finishing touch. In the end, it was Greenidge again, popping up to make it 2-0 to Monchy.

Monchy United won the warmup soccerama a week ago at the Grande Riviere Playing Field.

“I expect it to be mouth-watering and entertaining,” said Monchy head coach Zane Stephen of this year’s competition.

The competition continues on January 28, from 6:30 p.m. Gros Islet Veterans will play Police in Group B, whilst national club champions GMC United will take on Gros Islet Youth.

Eight teams are competing in this tournament, under the auspices of the Gros Islet Football League, with the title and over $10 000 in cash prizes on the line.
