Organisers expect ‘epic’ 2026 Jazz Festival

Soufriere Jazz, tagged as the ultimate experience, was launched on Sunday February 8 at Hotel Chocolat in Soufriere. The event which falls under the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts calendar of events, is one of the island’s biggest festivals.

Speaking at the launch, executive chairman of the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) Ernest Sam Augier described Soufriere Jazz as epic.

The SRDF has overall oversight for the event, as well as some of Soufriere’s natural resources including the Sulphur Springs Park.

“Soufriere Jazz has always been monumental in terms of the performances, the ambience, and trust me, this year is not going to be any different.

“Whereas we are hoping to have our Jazz on the second of May but really, we want you to come to Soufriere for a weekend experience,” Augier said, adding that a special event is in the works for May 1.

Augier also disclosed that following the main event, a special breakfast event is in the works for Sunday May 3 at the Sulphur Springs.

In recent years, the Soufriere Events Management Organization (SEMO) has been working closely with the SRDF to bring Soufriere Jazz to fruition.

Windia Jaunia of SEMO said the organisation was committed to planning and executing a high quality Soufriere Jazz.

“Over the past four years SEMO has remained committed to delivering events which create meaningful opportunities for local talent, supporting both emerging and experienced bands,” Jaunai said.

“We have also ensured the inclusion of small businesses, which showcase Soufriere as a destination, rich in culture and experience. That commitment continues under this year’s theme, ‘The Ultimate Experience’. This is a signature theme as it reflects our intention to promote Soufriere Jazz as an atmosphere, connection, quality production and moments that stay with you long after the last note is played.”

This year Soufriere Jazz: The Ultimate Experience will see a reunion of two of Saint Lucia’s most iconic bands of the past, Boo & the Tru Tones and Reasons Orchestra led by Gregory Piper.

The event will also feature reggae artiste Meshach, Groovy Monarch Imran Nerdy and soca artistes Ezra D Fun Machine and Arthur Allain, as well as DYP all from Saint Lucia.

From the region, Soufriere Jazz will also feature soca artiste Voice from Trinidad, 1T1 from Guadeloupe and headliner, reggae singer Gramps Morgan.

Roy “Gramps” Morgan is a  member of the internationally renowned reggae group, Morgan Heritage. With the band, he has recorded over 10 albums spanning many hits including ‘Down By The River’, ‘Don’t Haffi Dread’, ‘Tell Me How Come’, and ‘I’m Coming Home’.

A prolific vocalist, songwriter and keyboard player, Gramps has released a number of solo projects and hit songs which include ‘Wash The Tears’, ‘People Like You’, and ‘A Woman Like You’.

Soufriere Jazz the Ultimate Experience takes place on Saturday May 2 at the Soufriere mini stadium.
