Strong showing for Guadeloupe at Independence Tennis Tourney

Over 100 tennis players are competing at the Saint Lucia National Independence Tournament, but it has not been smooth sailing for local participants, with a 20-strong contingent from Guadeloupe dominating most of the seven categories.

In the Red Ball category for Under-10s, the champion was Keissy Prevost of Guadeloupe, defeating Saint Lucia’s Akella Alexander in the final. Jessy Prevost captured the Girls’ Orange Ball Under-10 title over Aria Raymond of Saint Lucia. It was all Guadeloupe in the Boys’ Orange Ball Under-10s, as Kyle Charles secured the championship over Daren Carien. The Green Ball Under-10 division featured a rare all-Saint Lucian final. Rowan Munoz-Smith emerged champion over Leon Nunez.

In the Girls’ Under-12 category, Maissa Dossa of Guadeloupe claimed the title, with teammate Lauren Pellan the runner-up. In the Boys’ Under-12s, the final scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, features French lads Cyril Coman and Travis Peroumal. Also on Tuesday, the Boys’ Under-14 final pits Tiago Pentier of Guadeloupe against Saint Lucia’s Tahj Goodman, while the Girls’ Under-14 division is still to be completed.

Vadim Aussepe Vinette of Guadeloupe has already secured the Boys’ Under-16 category, with the finalists to be determined. In the women’s Open division, Irene Mallet-Pinsolle of Guadeloupe captured the title, beating Saint Lucia’s Jaelyn Henry. The Men’s Open final, scheduled for Tuesday, will feature doubles teammates Darrion Roberts and Aaron Gerald.

Overall, the Guadeloupe team has delivered an outstanding performance at the National Tennis Centre, medalling in every event they entered and capturing multiple titles.
