E-waste recycling drive coming to Anse La Raye

Old phones, laptops, blenders, cans – if it’s cluttering your home, bring it along! This Saturday, Anse La Raye hosts a recycling day where every item earns you a chance to win prizes.

The Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority (SLSWMA), in partnership with Greening the Caribbean Inc. (GtC), will host a Community E-Waste and Aluminium Cans Drop-Off Event on March 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Anse La Raye Playing Field.

The event coincides with Global Recycling Day, a worldwide observance that spotlights the critical role recycling plays in preserving natural resources and protecting our environment.

This is the second community drop-off event coordinated by Greening the Caribbean (GtC) under the Integrated E-Waste Management (IEWM) Project, which is supported by IDB Lab and implemented in partnership with the SLSWMA. The project is designed to build sustainable, locally managed systems for the collection and processing of electronic and other waste streams across Saint Lucia.

“Global Recycling Day, under the theme, ‘Don’t think waste, think opportunity’ is a reminder that every community has a role to play in building a cleaner, more sustainable world. This event brings that responsibility home to Anse La Raye,” GtC said in a statement.

Residents are invited to bring their used electrical and electronic items for responsible disposal. Accepted items include phones, laptops, tablets, computers, printers, microwaves, irons, fans, blenders, air fryers, speakers, cameras, cables, batteries, keyboards, and other portable appliances. Aluminium cans will also be collected.

Bulky e-waste will not be accepted at this event. Residents are asked not to bring large household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, stoves, or large televisions.
“A practical guide – if you can carry it in, we can take it.”

As an added incentive, participants will receive tokens for each drop-off and have the opportunity to enter a prize draw. Prizes will be sponsored by Massy Stores, with draws taking place throughout the day.

The event has been made possible through the support of a valued network of community and institutional partners. Massy Stores is the principal prize sponsor. Invest Saint Lucia and the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) have provided critical institutional backing that helps bring initiatives like this to life. The Anse La Raye Constituency Council, The Anse La Raye Facilities Management Committee, The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) and the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment have all played a key role in championing the community dimension of this work, making sure that environmental accountability reaches every household.

“We are deeply grateful to every partner and supporter who has rallied behind this initiative and mobilised the local community around this event. When government agencies, the private sector and the community come together around a shared goal, that is when lasting change happens,” the organisation added.
