Lionel Messi broke the record of the most liked post in Instagram history thanks to a photo he posted after winning the Qatar 2022 World Cup with Argentina.
As of the writing of this article, Messi’s post has generated over 71 million Instagram likes.
“Thank you very much to my family, to all those who support me and also to all those who believed in us”, was part of the text which accompanied the photos.
Most liked Instagram photo before Messi broke the record
The post with the most likes on Instagram before Messi broke the record was published by the Instagram account @world_record_egg. The only post on that account is a photo of a single egg which generated a record of over 58 million likes.
That egg post was published in 2019 with the sole objective of taking away from Kylie Jenner the title of most liked ‘post’ on Instagram; a record that Messi now holds.
