WATCH: Saint Lucia Cancer Situation ‘Alarming’ – Health Minister Urges Action

Saint Lucia’s Minister of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs, Moses Jn Baptiste, has pointed to what he described as an ‘alarming’ situation regarding cancer on the Island and has called for action.

“According to our Epidemiology Department between 2016 and 2020, approximately 280 new cases of cancer were diagnosed each year,” Jn Baptiste disclosed in a statement to mark World Cancer Day on February 4.

He observed that cancer accounted for approximately 20% of deaths per year over the last decade.

Nevertheless, Jn Baptiste explained that despite the high death rates, many cancers can still be effectively treated and even cured if detected early enough.

His complete statement appears below:

  1. OMG……this is very alarming indeed. The big “C” is always the finally in anyone’s life, no one wants to hear or be told about
as this is changes all our perspectives on life.

What is the Government doing about the
(Care and Treatment) for those affected with this terrible disease?🤔🤔 Is there a Statutory Mandate to waiver Medical Bill’s for those affected by CANCER??

I was told about a lady who had breast cancer and her treatment was dependent on by the amount of money she had. Oh
If this is the case, then the Government should be more compassionate.

  2. Bad eating habits and bad lifestyles are the major causes of cancer. This should not be, especially on an ISLAND chock full of blessed medicinal plants and fruits. Take away the KFC, Dominos and other oily, fast food locations.

Education is key in telling/giving St Lucians the KEYS to healthy living.
