A cocaine transaction that turned sour has been blamed for a May 15 shootout in Martinique that left two men dead and another nursing injury in the hospital.
When the story broke, the online publication RCI.FM identified the two deceased as a Saint Lucian national and a Martiniquan.
The publication reported that the third man who was hospitalised with gunshot injury is also a Saint Lucian.
Police have since arrested him and two other suspects.
Investigators said they recovered two 9mm weapons, an AR15 semi-automatic rifle, cocaine, and cash at the scene of the gun violence in the capital, Fort de France.
A press release from public prosecutor Clarisse Taron disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated that the deadly gun violence erupted during a cocaine transaction involving two buyers and two sellers of the drug, all of whom had weapons.
The release said the buyers robbed the sellers, resulting in a heavy gunfire exchange that killed one man on each side and caused injury to one of the buyers.
The three individuals arrested by the police in connection with the deadly gun violence appeared before a magistrate on May 19 on charges including murder and drug trafficking.
The men are currently in prison.
Since the beginning of the year, Martinique has recorded ten homicides, 8 involving the use of firearms.

Oh well this is not the first, there has been many over the years and is definitely not the last.
If I got the story right!…seem like the st.lucians went to make a decent living and was robbed by the French men….ppl st.lucians are not always the crooked one’s….now the French police will confiscate the coke and either send it to France or redistribute it on Martinique streets…like it or not that’s just the way it is.

Reading some of the comments make me want to just wonder are we really that low in our thinking that the best we can come up with for a solution are these absurd ideas as a response to something horrible that transpired. Persons have lost their lives and that best we can do is make light of the matter. St Lucia what exactly are we doing to our youth or young people? Guns, drugs and crimes its come to that all in order for a life of what? People one day we shall all be responsible to answer for our deeds believe it or not but there will be a time when all the excuses and excuses run out what else will we do? Raise your kids right, adults do better so that you can leave a world better than you found it. Humans are the cause of the issues here today and I am sure humans can find the solutions to them also.
