UWP Calls On Saint Lucians To Join Protest March In Vieux Fort On Saturday

The opposition United Workers Party (UWP) has urged Saint Lucians to join a protest march in Vieux Fort on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

“We Saint Lucians will be protesting in Vieux Fort near the St. Jude Hospital and letting the government know exactly how we feel about what is taking place in this country,” UWP Public Relations Officer Lenard ‘Spider’ Montoute told a party Town Hall meeting on Sunday.

Montoute explained that one of the main reasons for the Vieux Fort protest was concern over St. Jude Hospital.

But he declared that Saint Lucians have many other reasons for protesting.

The former Gros Islet MP mentioned, among other things, the high cost of living, the price of fuel, a hike in bread prices, unemployment, the 2.5 percent tax, and government corruption, against which he said Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre refuses to take a stand.

“So we must take a stand,” Montoute told Sunday’s Town Hall meeting.

He also spoke of the need to march against Pierre’s ‘incompetence’ and a Cabinet whose only concern is ‘protecting the victory.’

“We must march to return our country to good governance under Allen Chastanet and the United Workers Party,” the former Minister stated.

He called on all Saint Lucians to join the protest march starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Spartan Health Sciences University gap.

Montoute said a public meeting would follow the protest march.

“Let us do something about what is going on. I call you to action – every Saint Lucian. Every patriotic and concerned Saint Lucian, come out and show your love for your country and take a stand against this government,” he declared.

  1. Why the 2 of u all eh stand up somewhere in the hot sun and the 17 lasting the longest will form the govt or the 17 who stay without food or water the longest. Maybe then we might get a bunch who really cares and are really want to serve the ppl and not their friends and hacks. Or i guess we will just continue voting a different party every 5 yrs. I used to say the difference between u all is one paints the railings yellow and the other red and white.

  2. this is ridiculous on all levels. both parties have had a go on this hospital. over a decade of pure stupidity and over 180 million dollars for a structure with many issues and isnt even 40% completed. you want to protest because you want to be in power to get your cut from the finances geared toward its rehabilitation, you dont want to protest because you care. had you and the others cared as much as yall claim, this would have been completed years ago but you shouldnt speak against the other party and vice versa since you both did the very same thing. it may be considered ignorant to say im not voting ever again, but i wont until there is a purge of both parties. ridiculous.

  3. Oh please do not come to vieux Fort you all did nothing for the south boys , from the age of 14 are smoking crack cocaine, weed and drinking alcohol disrespecting passers by stealing plantain from hard working farmers and their melons , low paying jobs that only pay 3 dollars an hour . The mindset of the people if vieux Fort are backwards

  7. Flambeau want to mobilize people to go and march in vieux Fort in the hot 🌞 Sun and not one bottle of water they are offering

  8. I have been to many of the UWPs town hall meetings and I have not heard anything constructive from the speakers. Comment on the $600 the government will give the pensioners in November. Comment on the 50 scholarships the government gave to the locals. These are things I want to hear in the town hall meetings.
