Humanitarians continue to deliver aid in Haiti, where the situation in the capital, Port-au-Prince, remains tense and volatile in the face of escalating gang violence and political instability.
The UN said on Tuesday that its children’s agency UNICEF and partners have delivered over 242,000 gallons of water since early March, while the World Food Programme (WFP) and partners have provided over 146,000 hot meals.
People traumatized by the recent violence are also receiving psychosocial support.
Infrastructure attacked
The UN humanitarian affairs office, OCHA, noted that schools, hospitals and government buildings in the capital continue to be attacked, with many having curtailed their operations.
The public electricity company recently reported that several substations in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area were destroyed, leaving several areas without power.
Meanwhile, the health sector continues to struggle due to the lack of medical supplies, healthcare workers and blood.
Support to hospitals
OCHA said the Bernard Mevs hospital in Port-au-Prince has gradually resumed its activities, with support from the UN health agency (WHO) and its regional arm, the Pan American Health Organization, in providing medicine and medical equipment.
A stock of anaesthetic drugs has been provided to Hospital Universite de Paix and Eliazar Germain Hospital in Petion-ville, a suburb of the capital.
Some 5.5 million people in Haiti, roughly half the population, need humanitarian aid. However, a $674 million plan, announced in late February, is just 6.5 per cent funded, with $43 million received.
The plan aims to provide food, shelter, health, education, and protection services for 3.6 million people this year.

The Biden administration is getting increasingly desperate to have the Haitian issue settled for their zionist donors who have been waiting to swoop in and collect “their” booty of natural resources that have had the misfortune of being deposited under the restless feet of patriotic Haitians!
They have attempted to use black-faced storm-troopers from Kenya, but Kenya’s highest court has ruled against that option.
UN “peacekeepers” have been used before in Haiti, but the results were disastrous for Haitians; ordinary citizens there will never again sanction UN interference (the UN mask of humanitarian intervention is too transparent).
The only gambit left for US imperialists is for an intervention by CARICOM (with full US military support, as in Grenada of 1983), of which Haiti is a member. The WEF puppet, Ali of Guyana, current chairman of CARICOM, has come on air, to pretend that the current situation has not all been the making of his imperial masters. He refuses to name the US in all of his speeches; preferring to lump them into an amorphous group named “Haitian stakeholders”. His pretense at seeking consensus hides the fact that it is the US agents who are agreement-incapable & cannot come to consensus with the Haitian people who are adamant about not ceding their sovereignty to US corporations, who have already paid off Haiti’s treacherous bourgeoisie.

@Oh Really: I cannot take credit for this simple solution…it’s the obvious one you are pretending not to see – the US must leave Haiti immediately & completely, and pay Haiti reparations for the repression of its citizens & economy, which it has inflicted continuously for more than a century and a half!
