“I’m Sorry. We’re Going Back To Serenity Park!’

Castries Central MP Richard Frederick is resolute about removing Sir George William Mallet’s name from Serenity Park.

“I’m sorry. We are going back to Serenity Park!” The Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for Housing and Local Government told reporters this week.

Serenity Park was the original name of the Sans Souci, Castries recreation area.

However, on February 13, 2019, the then-United Workers Party government renamed the Sir George William Mallet Serenity Park with a plaque bearing the new name.

The late Mallet was a prominent politician, serving as Governor-General of Saint Lucia and holding various high offices, including Deputy Prime Minister.

Mallet was also the MP for Castries Central for many years.

As a result, Frederick suggested it would be more fitting to honour the late politician by renaming Bido Park or somewhere in the CDC area in Castries after him.

In addition, Frederick recalled the process that led to adopting the name ‘Serenity Park.’

“This name was arrived through the competitive process; school children got involved and there was a panel actually put together to select the winning name… What message are you sending
to other school children or other persons who want to participate in a process?” He stated.

The Castries Central MP emphasised that he had no objection to recognising the late George Mallet’s contribution to Saint Lucia.
He concluded.

Nevertheless, he told reporters that the name Serenity Park would stand.

  1. I’m sorry but …. The reasoning is stupid …

    For eg.
Darren Sammy isn’t from gros Islet … And yet … We have a whole stadium named after him ….

And why is he using the school children as an excuse. Once a school child is involved in something… It becomes set in stone ?

You want to rename the park …. Just rename the park … Them silly excuses make no sense

  2. I_just_saying.. I think we are all a little more dumb after reading your comment. In fact I think you deserve an award for idiotic comment of the year.

  3. @Trend I think we are all a little more dumb after reading your attack on @ I just saying. In fact I think you deserve an award for idiotic attack of the decade and no comment on the issue.
Now, doesn’t the name George Mallet Serenity Park have the name Serenity Park in it? Even with the name, don’t we all just say “Serenity Park? So what is the point removing Sir George Mallet from the name? The point is just the Minister engaging in petty politics.

  4. Am_just_saying, he is right on this one but I hope there will not be an expensive renaming ceremony on tax payers money. With this being said, moving forward, we should cease naming places in St Lucia after political figures. We should only name after sports figures and citizens who have impacted community. I hope more important issues take priority with this same energy in the future.

  5. Good Fredrick’s…..the process to name the park Serenity Park was a selective process amongst school children there WAS NOTHING POLITICAL about it these Yellow Jackasses were the ones who inject politics by placing Mallet name REMOVE IT to the immediate effect.

  6. @Trend
    Not “WE” just “YOU” ….
There is No need to be fearful… That award will always be yours… You have No competition.

However I’d expect a response like that from someone with poor comprehension skills. (“For A Clouded Mind Sees Nothing” )

I was going to try to dumb it down for you…
    …but … Decided that I won’t waste my time.

You know what they say ….
“Never argue with an idiot…. “

  7. This is why we will continue like nomads. The leaders are like wild oats running all over the place. Even if you rename the park it still looking like a piece of neglected land.

  8. I agree back to the old name. Too many political names . False heroes aka party affiliate. Gfl airport julien hunt highway smh more like julien Alfred airport. Anyways

  9. It is totally beyond me how the people can elect an MP with so many question marks surrounding his character to represent them. It is even more baffling peep would include said character in his government. What does it say about this country?

  10. The minister could have simply come out and say he wants to improve and rename the park and something else will carry the George Mallet name and simply leave it at that.
But in my opinion, the reasons he’s giving don’t quite add up. It has nothing to do with colour or side or party. Cuz I think all politicians are selfish bastards

But because the school children took part in the process does that makes it a legitimate reason to rename the park ?
Selfishly using school children as an excuse.

Because the person the park was named after was not a representative of the area the park resides ?

Then change the name of Darren Sammy stadium based on that reasoning too.

Remove the statue of Sir John Compton in constitution park and put it in micoud then

And by extension the George Oldum stadium as well.

Listen to his explanation on YouTube.

  11. Come on!
    How low can we go!
Let’s pull up our BIG GIRLS PANTY!

Let’s move away from this petty politics! And focus on the future of this country which has being stuck in first gear for sometime now.

Question: Has the name person since become a convicted criminal or there has been an erroneous discovery to bring the country into disrepute? ( isn’t he deceased?)

There are great issues the Minister and his Department should be attempting to resolve or strategically evolving the housing issue in this country?

Parliamentary Representative , elected member do not allow the hook in your mouth to pull you to shallow waters.

A whale do not swim in muddy waters.

  12. Mondesir, in order for show your subtle support for the foolishness, you jump to ” Too many political names . False heroes aka party affiliate”. Well, ok, I agree with you.
    Let’s do away with:
    Julian Hunte Highway
    John Compton Highway
    GFL Charles Airport
    Sir George Mallet Serenity Park
    Romanus Lansiquot Human Resource Center
    Hunter J. Francois Library
    Stanley Jon Odlum Secondary School
    Jon Compton Dam
    Clendon Mason Secondary School
    George Odlum Stadium

    Have you changed your mind?

  13. Why would you want to rename Bideau Park…does this guy know who Jean Baptist Bideau was? A national hero….so you would take his name off the park to erect another’s name? Sorry excuses for politicians….but by all means carry on with reverting to the name Serenity Park….

  14. The crooked partisan duopoly (SLP/UWP) in St. Lucio is, again, taking advantage of St. Lucians’ political naïveté (I call it collective dishonesty & delusion) in falling for the old magician’s trick, where the hand is quicker than the audience’s eye!

In this case, Frederick has us quarreling about & concentrating on insignificant aspects of this capital project (and others, on-going), while the possibility or evidence of graft (known here as “bor-bol”), where tons of cash is sucked into his pockets & SLP’s election war chest, is never discussed or investigated publicly.

  15. @sophia John don’t you mean Don!!!.
**** Children’s resources ….the future of this country!,,….should take precedence over more wasted resources for entertainment…..how much is missing in CIP 8.3 billion??…… revenues should be going to the poorest infrastructures and neighborhoods, the storms are getting worse, along with mud slides and road infrastructure is more crucial at this time and juncture in 2025 almost, not a new park name and mini amphitheater…. Smph

  16. I’d like to add… we have Wasco flow 2 x in the last month or more….so isint water, flow distribution and pumps and DESILTIiNG the Dam and infrastructure in Cap more important than a park name RF?, SLP? Or nooo again Wasco revoking it’s emergency order is a *****ing JOKE ….and here we are ….wasting resources again and again and again…. WASCO Wasco Wasco assistance over Serenity PARK!!!
