“He Didn’t Deserve to Die Like That”: Sister Mourns Bocage Shooting Victim

“He really didn’t deserve to die how he did.”

Those words from the grieving sister of 35-year-old Wayne Mathurin, who was fatally shot on Sunday night in Bocage, Castries.

Police say Mathurin, a resident of the area, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in a incident that occurred around 8:15 p.m. and was rushed to the Owen King European Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

His sister, who did not give her name, said she was home at the time, and recalled hearing the gunfire.

“I was home when I heard the shots… not knowing it was my brother that got shot,” she said. “My brother wasn’t a bad person to his family…and I wouldn’t say he was totally innocent, but he really didn’t deserve to die how he did.”

Remembering him as someone who brought joy to those around him, she described Mathurin as a source of laughter in the family.

“He was a funny person—probably not to everybody—but to the family. He always made you laugh, always catching kicks,” she said.

As police continue their investigation, the family is left searching for comfort and calling for accountability.

“It just so tough. I really miss my brother. I just pray that they bring that person [who shot him] to justice,” she said.

Commenting on the recent spate of gun violence, she added, “It doesn’t make any sense. Sometimes it’s for the pettiest things. There are other ways to deal with it, but that’s the lifestyle.”

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 456-3770. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be provided by dialing 555 (the Crime Hotline) or by utilising the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force Crime Hotline.

  1. I am not familiar with Gang Hand Signs, however it appears to be a number six sign that is being displayed (stand to be corrected) in the photo thus demonstrating the allegiance. Seem like most young individuals always generate hand signs when taking photos not realizing it can be a cause to unfortunate future situations. He should have chosen better hand signs such as love, peace or even the sign of the cross. Having said that May God Rest his young Soul
